Rogos was constituted in October 2006 as a cooperative company with the aim of offering services in the field of education, environmental interpretation, to promote the area in historical and cultural terms as well as the protection and sustainable use of the local natural heritage.

Since August 2007 it has taken care of the management of the Gradina Visitor Centre which serves the Regional Natural Reserve of the Lakes of Doberdò and Pietrarossa on behalf of the municipality of Doberdò del Lago in the province of Gorizia.

The Centre is the forum for logistics for the organisation of all activities as well as being the registered office of the Cooperative.

From April 2008 to March 2009 Rogos managed the visitor center of the Regional Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra, organising exhibitions, lectures and natural history tours.

Environmental education is very important amongst the main objectives being pursued, since this is the optimum means by which to create an environmental culture among young people. To this end Rogos immediately undertook its own initiatives as well as working with local institutions since the school year 2007/08, cooperating on the regional project “Conoscere per Crescere” (“Know to Grow”) for both  the Nature Reserve of Val Rosandra and that of the lakes of Doberdò and Pietrarossa.

In April 2009 the Cooperative was commissioned by the Regional government’s Natural Environment and Wildlife Protection Service to conduct tours in the Schiavetti biotope in Monfalcone (Province of Gorizia) involving about 600 students from the town of Monfalcone.

In an effort to cooperate with research and educational institutions, Rogos was granted accreditation by the University of Trieste to conduct training on the nature reserve.

Since June 2009, the Cooperative has been active in promoting local Karst products, an important part of local culture, creating a shop-window through which producers and the public can meet up and get to know each other.

The main activities carried out since 2007

December 2007 - Celebrations for the end of border controls, along with the Monfalcone Cultural Centre.
